Gongju City in Chungnam announced on the 9th that it will select King Muryeong, the queen, and others for the 70th Baekje Cultural Festival, which is scheduled to be held on September 28.
Eligible applicants are men and women aged 19 to 50 who reside in Chungnam, Daejeon, or Sejong. For the prince and princess roles, applicants must be students currently enrolled from 4th grade in elementary school to 3rd grade in middle school.
Qualifications include the roles of King Muryeong, the queen, the prince, and the princess. Applicants must possess both the intellectual ability and appearance suitable for maintaining the dignity of Baekje royalty and be able to participate in external activities for two years.
Applicants may apply individually or as a group of two or four, including family, friends, or acquaintances. Applications can be submitted to the Gongju City Tourism Association from the 19th to the 30th.
The city will announce the successful candidates from the document screening on September 3, and the selection contest will be held on September 8 at the Art Center Goma Convention Hall.
King Muryeong and the queen will each receive a prize of 2 million won, while the prince and princess will each receive 700,000 won. They will also serve as tourism ambassadors for Gongju City for two years, participating in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Baekje Cultural Festival and other events.
This year’s 70th Baekje Cultural Festival, under the theme “Baekje Culture, the 70th Great Step - Guardian Jinmyosu, Illuminating Ungjin,” will be held for nine days from September 28 to October 6 at Geumgang Singwan Park, Gongsanseong, the Tomb of King Muryeong, and along Jemicheon in Gongju.
