'Planned Blackouts' Contribute to Vietnam Power Supply
CEO Lee Sang-ho "HVDC Submarine Cable Project Also Planned"
LS Eco Energy contributed to Vietnam's power supply by supplying 2,000 km of overhead lines to Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
LS Eco Energy announced on the 9th that its Vietnam production subsidiary, LS-VINA, recently supplied approximately 2,000 km of overhead lines to EVN. Overhead lines are electric wires installed on towers and utility poles.
The overhead lines will be used in a major transmission network of about 600 km connecting northern and central Vietnam. The project plays a crucial role in linking nearly half of Vietnam's territory. The overhead lines are installed along Vietnam's long and narrow terrain.
In particular, northern Vietnam experienced severe power shortages last year, with planned blackouts lasting two hours daily. The project is expected to significantly help alleviate the power shortage by transmitting electricity from the central region to the north.
The Vietnamese government plans to expand its current power capacity of 100 GW (gigawatts) to 500 GW by 2050. It intends to invest more than 20 trillion KRW by 2030. The demand for cables alone is predicted to reach about 2 trillion KRW.
A company official stated, "LS Eco Energy is the only company in Vietnam with ultra-high voltage cable production capabilities," adding, "As the number one player in the Vietnamese cable market, we expect to continuously increase sales."
LS Eco Energy CEO Sangho Lee said, "We are also planning a project to connect the north and south with ultra-high voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cables to resolve the power shortage in northern Vietnam," and added, "We will seek various business opportunities in line with the growth of the power market to further strengthen our position in the market."
With the growth of the domestic market in Vietnam and increased exports, LS Eco Energy achieved record-high performance in the first half of the year, recording sales of 412.5 billion KRW and operating profit of 24.4 billion KRW.
