The tournament organizing committee postponed the first round, originally scheduled for the 8th (local time), to the 9th due to heavy rain caused by Hurricane Debby at the Sagefield Country Club (par 70, 7,131 yards) in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA, where the tournament is held. The committee plans to complete all 72 holes by Sunday, the 12th local date, but with forecasts of heavy rain on the 10th as well, it is likely that the tournament will conclude on Monday local time.
The Wyndham Championship is the final event of the PGA Tour regular season. Based on the final results, the 70 players who will advance to the first round of the playoffs (PO), the St. Jude Championship (total prize money $20 million) starting on the 15th, will be determined. Lee Kyeong-hoon, ranked 99th in the FedEx Cup standings, and Kim Seong-hyun, ranked 110th, must finish at least as runner-up in this tournament to qualify for the playoffs.
The PGA Tour continues with the second round of the playoffs, the BMW Championship (total prize money $20 million) on the 22nd, and the third round, the Tour Championship (date to be determined) on the 29th. The BMW Championship allows players ranked up to 50th in the FedEx Cup standings to participate, and the Tour Championship includes players ranked up to 30th.
