Posted Drug Prohibition Notices at 109 Entertainment Venues to Promote Drug Prevention
Conducted 3 Joint Drug Crackdowns with Related Agencies During August Intensive Drug Crackdown Period
Established Dedicated Reporting Channel for Drug Facilities and Implemented Anonymous Drug Testing to Alleviate Residents' Anxiety
Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has actively taken measures to prevent the spread of narcotics through entertainment establishments.
The district has recently intensified surveillance on places where drug abuse is a concern, such as entertainment venues, in response to the serious issue of drug proliferation, implementing various measures to protect the health and safety of its residents.
First, the district conducted focused hygiene inspections around 48 schools in the area, targeting the provision of unmarked beverages and tasting activities, and initiated improvements to food menus containing drug-related terms. In May, the district posted notices prohibiting the introduction of narcotics at the entrances of 109 entertainment facilities in the area to actively promote drug prevention, while strengthening inspections through joint nighttime crackdowns on narcotics and hygiene.
Additionally, August has been designated as a concentrated drug crackdown period, during which the district plans to conduct drug prevention publicity and enforcement at entertainment establishments three times in cooperation with the police and related agencies.
In particular, club-type business operators, who are at high risk of abuse, were provided with GHB (commonly known as "water drug") self-test detection strips, allowing them to easily check whether drinks contain drugs in suspicious situations.
The district office has also established a dedicated reporting channel for facilities providing narcotics, making it easier for residents to report such cases.
Alongside this, to alleviate residents' anxiety about possible unintentional exposure to narcotics and prevent further harm, an ‘Anonymous Drug Test’ is being conducted. Residents can apply for anonymous urine tests via QR code, with results for six types of narcotics?methamphetamine, opiates, cocaine, marijuana, amphetamines, and ecstasy?available within 20 minutes. If necessary, addiction counseling and rehabilitation programs are provided in connection with the Integrated Addiction Management Center.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, "The spread of narcotics can have a serious impact on the local community, so we will closely monitor and strongly respond to all potential risk factors, including entertainment establishments. We ask that anyone who encounters suspicious situations related to narcotics report them at any time."
