At Least Two Water Spraying Operations Per Pier, Three Times a Day
BPA is making every effort to prevent heat-related illnesses among workers by deploying water-spraying trucks to ensure the stable operation of Busan Port despite the ongoing heatwave.
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Junseok) announced on the 8th that, in cooperation with the Busan Port Dockworkers' Union, Busan Port Logistics Association, and terminal operators, large water-spraying trucks will be operated for two weeks at each pier site in North Port, New Port, and Gamcheon Port.
Two water-spraying trucks will be mobilized per pier, focusing on quay areas where outdoor work such as container lashing and unlashing is most frequent, spraying water more than three times a day. Each truck can spray about 15 tons of water at a time.
The operation of these trucks helps cool down the heat-soaked concrete surfaces and remove fine dust, thereby preventing heat-related illnesses among workers and creating a safer working environment.
BPA President Kang Junseok stated, "Since ports are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses due to the nature of extensive outdoor work, we will continue to develop measures for worker safety in cooperation with labor and management."
