A Woman in Her 90s Working in a Field in Jinanseo Dies... Jeonbuk's First 'Heat-Related Illness Death' of the Year

The first suspected heat-related death of the year occurred in Jeonbuk. A woman in her 90s, Ms. A, who was working in the fields during the heatwave, collapsed and passed away four days later.


According to Jeonbuk Fire Department on the 8th, Ms. A was found collapsed by her family around 2 p.m. on the 4th in a field in Yongdam-myeon, Jinan-gun, and they reported it.


When firefighters arrived at the scene, Ms. A was unconscious, and her body temperature was reported to have reached 41 degrees Celsius.

Ms. A was transferred unconscious to a hospital in Daejeon nearby for treatment but ultimately died.


The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact circumstances, believing that Ms. A collapsed from heat-related illness while working in the field about an hour earlier.


At that time, a heatwave warning had been issued for all 14 cities and counties in the Jeonbuk region. According to data from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency as of the 6th, 125 heat-related illness cases were recorded in Jeonbuk.


The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and Jeonbuk Provincial Government classified this as the first heat-related death in the province, presumed to have occurred while working in the fields.
