Mother-in-law Explored Remarriage Amid Wife's Stroke Battle
"I'm Getting a Stepmom"... Daughter's Words Lead to Divorce Decision
A woman in her 30s confessed that she decided to get a divorce after hearing shocking words from her daughter.
On the 7th, JTBC's 'Case Manager' aired the story of Ms. A, a woman in her 30s who married a husband 7 years older and has a 6-year-old daughter.
Ms. A was working part-time at a cafe when she developed a romantic relationship with Mr. B, a customer. Later, Ms. A decided to marry him due to Mr. B's persistent advances. However, as Ms. A gained weight during her pregnancy, her husband Mr. B suddenly changed and became irritable for various reasons. Then Ms. A suddenly suffered a stroke and collapsed. Although her life was not in danger, she was left with some speech impairment and paralysis in her right arm as aftereffects.
At first, Mr. B took care of her, but as time passed, he became irritable and eventually took their daughter back to his parents' home. One day, their daughter said something shocking: "Mom, I will have a stepmother soon." When Ms. A asked, "What do you mean?" the daughter replied, "I heard it from grandma." The paternal grandmother was encouraging her son to remarry and introduced a woman to him.
Feeling betrayed, Ms. A decided to file for divorce. Although she wanted to raise her daughter, due to her physical difficulties and lack of financial stability, she agreed to give custody to Mr. B, who was relatively better off. Mr. B demanded 2 million won in child support and insisted on receiving the entire amount for 14 years at once, until their daughter reaches adulthood.
After hearing the story, lawyer Yang Ji-yeol said, "There is a child support guideline for each region. It is calculated considering personal income and the child's age. Very few people can afford to pay around 2 million won in child support. That is an extremely high amount, and on top of that, asking for 14 years' worth all at once? That is an absolutely unreasonable demand."
Netizens responded with sympathy, saying things like, "He cheats and acts so boldly," "He says things he shouldn't say in front of his child," "I'm worried about the emotional scars the daughter will suffer later," "If the parents are like that, it might be better if they weren't there," "Hearing stories like this these days makes me scared of marriage," and "How can a couple behave like that?"
