First Lady Kim Keon-hee visited the Busan Modern History Museum in Jung-gu, Busan, on the 7th during her summer vacation. Having visited Busan's Kkangtong Market and the local specialty product development company 'Myeongran Brand Research Institute' on the 6th, she visited Busan for two consecutive days.
According to the presidential office and local reports on the 8th, while spending her vacation at the naval base in Jinhae, Gyeongnam with President Yoon, the First Lady visited the Busan Modern History Museum the previous day and stayed for about an hour to tour the exhibits.
The Busan Modern History Museum is a history museum focusing on Busan's modern history. It has been newly renovated by preserving the Busan Modern History Hall, a building from the Japanese colonial period (formerly the Oriental Development Company and the U.S. Cultural Center), and the old Bank of Korea Busan Headquarters building, which is Korea's first-generation architectural structure.
The First Lady also toured the Huinnyeoul Culture Village and Gamcheon Culture Village, which were villages where refugees gathered during the Korean War. She visited a gallery run by an emerging artist, engaged in conversations about the artworks, and took commemorative photos to offer encouragement.
Citizens who met the First Lady while exploring the cultural villages requested selfies, and she reportedly gladly took photos with them.
The First Lady's visit schedule to Busan was not disclosed to reporters covering the presidential office. She carried out her Busan itinerary privately with a minimal entourage.
A presidential office official said, "Busan is a city that has grown by overcoming the scars of war and vividly demonstrates the dynamism of modern history. We understand that the First Lady visited traditional markets and tourist attractions in Busan to help revitalize the local economy."
