Establishing the Busan-Style Rental Housing Redevelopment Model
Multifaceted Efforts to Improve Residential Welfare
Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC, President Kim Yonghak) held an interim briefing session on the 6th to discuss the progress and future plans of the 'Establishment of Mid- to Long-term Roadmap for Improving BMC Aged Public Rental Housing' project.
The briefing was attended by 62 people, including President Kim Yonghak, executives, and senior staff, who listened to the progress report from the project contractor, Site Planning Architects Co., Ltd.
In particular, they focused on checking the current status of each complex, the selection of priority complexes for redevelopment based on resident housing condition surveys, and the types of redevelopment suitable for each complex's development conditions, and discussed future schedules.
This project was launched to analyze the current status and establish a roadmap for improvement, such as reconstruction, for 13 complexes totaling 10,958 units of public rental housing managed by BMC that are over or approaching 30 years since completion.
Starting in April, the project has conducted surveys on the current status of each complex, analyzed occupancy and residential environments, and carried out questionnaires to analyze resident housing conditions. Based on these indicator analyses, a draft selection of priority complexes for redevelopment will be prepared and the types of redevelopment will be derived.
After deriving the redevelopment types, BMC plans to analyze the business feasibility of each complex type in connection with the maintenance of aging planned cities and station area development, and to establish a detailed plan on whether to proceed with redevelopment by the end of October.
In addition, in order to gather opinions from civil society on the direction of maintenance for aging public rental housing, BMC will hold a policy forum on mid- to long-term improvement directions for aging public rental housing at the Busan Port Convention Center on the 28th, with participation from Busan City, the city council, and experts.
Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, stated, "This project is the cornerstone for establishing a Busan-style public rental housing redevelopment model and the first step toward substantial improvement of residential welfare for Busan citizens," adding, "We will continue to strive for the realization of emotional residential welfare and tangible improvements in the residential environment for Busan citizens through communication with Busan City, the city council, and civil society throughout the process."
