[Mania] "Quieter than a library"... Tried the LG Dehumidifier Renewed After 10 Years

LG Whisen Objet Collection Dehumidifier Review

Features a sleek design with hidden handle
Water tank visible even in the dark
21L large-capacity dehumidification with 5L water tank
Quiet dehumidification at 32db in low noise mode

The main culprit that raises the discomfort index during summer is humidity. Although the comfortable indoor humidity level in summer is said to be between 40-60%, prolonged rainy seasons and hot, humid weather often push indoor humidity well above 70%. Because it’s humid and hot, people turn on the air conditioner, but once the indoor temperature drops, they quickly feel cold and end up turning it off and on repeatedly. Ultimately, using a dehumidifier alone to control moisture is the most effective way to maintain a comfortable and dry environment.

Considering the pattern of increased dehumidifier use even outside of summer or the rainy season, LG Electronics released a new dehumidifier model this year called the 'LG Whisen Objet Collection Dehumidifier.' This product reflects the changing usage patterns of consumers, such as managing humidity separately in dressing rooms, preventing mold caused by condensation in winter, and drying laundry. I tested this product by renting it for two weeks.

The model I used has a 21L capacity. This is the newly expanded dehumidification capacity.

First, the exterior features LG Electronics’ clean white-tone design with several hidden points. The handle is a hidden type that can be pushed in or pulled out by touch. The bottom has wheels, making it easy to move around when needed. The product weighs 16kg.

The control panel display is also not visible from the outside. When the product is turned on, the screen shows the operating mode along with the current humidity. There is a compartment for storing the power cord hidden at the back of the dehumidifier. The one-touch cord storage compartment neatly organizes messy wires, showing attention to detail. The simple design is intended to blend well with furniture and interior decor.

The water tank located at the lower right of the product has a large capacity of 5L. When using the product during the rainy season, I observed that the tank filled up in about 4 hours. Emptying the water was simple. The tank has a handle and tilts easily for opening and closing, requiring no extra effort. The internal structure is simple, making cleaning easy. The water tank also has a light, so it’s convenient to check the water level even in a dark room.

The product has four operating modes: Smart Plus, Low Noise Dehumidification, Quick Clothes Drying, and Intensive Drying. While the product can be operated directly, using the LG ThinQ app was much more convenient.

Usually, I used the Smart Plus mode the most, adjusting airflow and desired humidity. The wind direction can be selected from three options?Space, Multi-purpose, and Focus?making it easy to set according to the purpose.

A notable mode is the Low Noise Dehumidification. Operating at 32db, this mode is quieter than a library. Although the dehumidification capacity is slightly lower than normal, the reduced noise makes it very useful during sleep time or in homes with young children. LG Electronics explains that the Low Noise Dehumidification mode reduces power consumption by about 47% compared to the Quick Dehumidification mode.

Hygiene was also considered. The UVnano function sterilizes the fan that blows air using UV LEDs, and the automatic drying function dries the interior to prevent mold growth in advance.

The ThinQ app also allows energy monitoring. It measures daily power consumption by hour and lets users visually check energy usage over 1 week, 1 month, or 1 year, which is a useful feature for consumers interested in power consumption. It also supports purchasing consumables, smart diagnosis, and checking the user manual.

LG Electronics says this is the first major design change in their dehumidifier platform in 10 years. If you are looking for a product that can be used year-round, not just during the rainy season, and that satisfies in terms of design, performance, hygiene, and practicality, LG Electronics’ new dehumidifier could be a great choice.
