Hearing for Yusang-im, Minister of Science and ICT Nominee, at the Science and ICT Committee on the 8th
"Apologizes for Children's Falsified Residence Registration... Does Not Admit Grounds for Withdrawal"
Yoo Sang-im, the nominee for Minister of Science and ICT, acknowledged and apologized for the allegations of false address registration involving his eldest and second sons.
On the 8th, during the confirmation hearing of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee, when pointed out that his eldest and second sons had registered false addresses in the Gangnam 8 school district, Yoo apologized, saying, "I am sorry."
Yoo explained, "Since I lived abroad, moving from the United States to Japan and then back to Korea, my eldest son had considerable difficulty adapting," adding, "It was a situation where I had no choice but to transfer him during middle school."
He also clarified, "My second son went to the United States in the fifth grade of elementary school and immediately entered middle school, so he did not graduate from elementary school in Korea," and "After returning to Korea, due to adaptation issues, I had no choice but to transfer him."
He added, "The purpose was not to send my eldest and second sons to prestigious schools, but rather to change their environment."
Regarding the criticism that the false address registration could be grounds for his disqualification as minister nominee, he responded, "It is difficult to accept that to that extent."
