Kwon Jin-young, CEO of Hook Entertainment, who was prosecuted for illegally obtaining sleeping pills through company employees, was sentenced to a suspended prison term.
On the 8th, Judge Park So-jung of the Criminal Division 2 at the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Kwon, who was indicted without detention on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic substances), to 8 months in prison with a 2-year suspension. Additionally, a fine of 170,000 won was ordered. Three employees who were indicted together were each sentenced to fines ranging from 3 million to 7 million won.
The court stated, "Drug-related crimes have serious adverse effects on society as a whole, and Kwon, having led the crime by abusing his position, bears heavy responsibility."
Kwon is accused of receiving 17 sleeping pills from two employees on three occasions between January and July 2022 by having an employee without sleep disorders falsely claim symptoms to be prescribed Stilnox, a psychotropic drug. It was also investigated that he received zolpidem, which was being taken by another person.
Meanwhile, since 2022, Kwon has been involved in a legal dispute over settlement payments with former company singer and actor Lee Seung-gi.
