Invitation to Lunch with Coach After Clearing High Jump Qualifiers on the 7th
"Hoping for New Records in South Korean Athletics"
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, cheered for Woo Sang-hyeok, an athlete from the city who advanced to the final after passing the high jump preliminaries at the Paris Olympics, on the morning of the 7th (local time) and invited him to lunch to convey his congratulations.

On the same day, Woo Sang-hyeok cleared 2.27 meters in the men's high jump preliminaries at the Stade de France in Paris during the 2024 Paris Olympics athletics event, advancing to the final in a tie for third place. Woo became the first in the history of Korean track and field athletics to advance to the Olympic final twice in a row.
After the preliminaries, Mayor Lee invited Woo and coach Kim Do-gyun of the athletics vertical jump team to a restaurant in Paris for lunch, encouraging them to perform well in the final as well.
Mayor Lee said, "I will cheer enthusiastically from the stands during the final," and added, "I expect Woo to give a great gift to the citizens of Yongin and the people of the Republic of Korea in the final." He also stated, "If the skills shown in the preliminaries are well demonstrated in the final, I firmly believe that a new record will be set in the history of Korean athletics."
Woo replied, "Thanks to the strong support from the people, I was able to pass the preliminaries smoothly," and said, "I will do my best in the final to bring good news to the people."
