Hanhil Cement Develops and Applies 'Carbon Dioxide Injection Floor Mortar'

Successful Concrete Pouring at Gongju Plant on the 7th
Annual Reduction of Approximately 50,000 Tons of Carbon Dioxide Possible

Hanil Cement has developed the country's first 'carbon dioxide-injected floor mortar' and has begun test pouring.

Hanil Cement announced on the 8th that on the 7th, it poured the carbon dioxide-injected floor mortar 'Remital FS150' inside an experimental unit established at its Gongju plant.

This method involves injecting 0.4 kg of carbon dioxide per 1㎥ of mortar. When carbon dioxide is added to the mortar, the cement density increases during the curing process, allowing the same strength to be maintained even if the cement usage is reduced by about 3%.

Hanil Cement explained, "If carbon dioxide is injected into all the floor mortar sold annually, about 50,000 tons of carbon dioxide can be reduced," adding, "This amount corresponds to the carbon dioxide emitted by approximately 16,000 passenger cars driving 35 km per day for one year."

Hanil Cement has also secured automated pouring technology for the carbon dioxide-injected floor mortar. They developed a device for the precise injection of carbon dioxide into mortar and obtained a patent for it. Using a mobile silo equipped with this device, they can pour mortar for apartment buildings and other multi-family housing. The mobile silo automatically mixes the mortar and water in precise quantities and pumps it through hoses to high floors.

Oh Hae-geun, Executive Director of Hanil Cement's Technology Research Institute, said, "It is meaningful to contribute to carbon neutrality by applying carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology to floor Remital products for the first time in Korea," and added, "We will continue to make greater efforts to differentiate the quality of Remital."
