Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 8th that a cheering event will be held for athlete Seo Chang-wan, who is competing in the modern pentathlon at the Paris Olympics.
On the 11th, when the finals of each event of the 33rd Olympic modern pentathlon take place, a cheering event for Yeongam residents will be held at the Wangin Room in the county office.
A native of Yeongam-eup, Seo Chang-wan is a national representative in the modern pentathlon, which consists of fencing, swimming, equestrian, shooting, and laser run, and has recently achieved outstanding results in international competitions.
He has shown a steep upward trend with achievements such as 2nd place in the 2022 World Cup individual event, a bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships, and a gold medal in the men's relay at the 2024 World Championships, making him a promising athlete expected to perform well at the Paris Olympics.
Seo will compete from the 8th starting with the ‘Fencing Ranking Round’ until the 11th, and various broadcasters are scheduled to provide live coverage.
Yeongam-gun is supporting Seo through its website and official SNS before and during the Olympics. If Seo advances to the finals, Yeongam residents will gather in one place to cheer and applaud him collectively.
