Dongseo University Successfully Concludes Korea-Japan Next Generation Academic Forum International Conference

Hosted by Dongseo University Japan Research Center, 21st Annual Conference This Year

'Global Issues and Korea-Japan Joint Response' Held in Japan

The Japan Research Center at Dongseo University hosted the 21st International Academic Conference of the Korea-Japan Next Generation Academic Forum, organized by the Korea-Japan Next Generation Academic Forum (Representative: Jang Je-guk, President of Dongseo University), which was recently held at the Fukuoka Campus of Japan University of Economics.

This year marks the 21st edition of the forum, which was held under the theme "Global Issues and Joint Responses of Korea and Japan." Next-generation researchers from both countries participated, presenting and discussing in six divisions: A (International Relations, Politics & Law, Economics & Business), B (History), C (Language & Literature, Folklore & Anthropology), D (Society & Gender), E (Religion & Thought), and F (Culture & Arts).


The first day began at 9:30 a.m. with presentations in each division. At 1:20 p.m., the opening ceremony was held (Opening remarks: Jang Je-guk, Forum Representative; Welcome address: Suzuki Asuka, Dean of Japan University of Economics; Congratulatory remarks: Kusuda Daizo, Mayor of Dazaifu). From 2:00 p.m., Katori Yoshinori, Chairman of the Japan-Korea Cultural Exchange Foundation, delivered a keynote lecture on "Korea-Japan Relations in the World." The forum provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on the necessity of cooperation and joint responses between Korea and Japan regarding global issues.


On the second day, participants visited Hita City in Oita Prefecture and Dazaifu City in Fukuoka Prefecture, touring sites such as Mamedamachi, Dazaifu Tenmangu, and the Kyushu National Museum, further strengthening the friendship among Korean and Japanese researchers.


From Korea, 39 master's and doctoral students from 19 universities including Dongseo University, Yonsei University, Korea University, Seoul National University, Chung-Ang University, and Pusan National University attended as presenters and designated discussants. From Japan, 46 master's and doctoral students from 35 universities including the University of Tokyo, Waseda University, and Keio University participated.


Jang Je-guk, Representative of the Korea-Japan Next Generation Academic Forum (President of Dongseo University), stated, "Since the 2020s, confusion in the international community has been increasing. Korea and Japan must seek solutions together to these crises. To this end, as the forum marks its 21st anniversary and embarks on a new leap forward, we aim to further contribute to the Korea-Japan friendship, which is the founding purpose of this forum."


The Korea-Japan Next Generation Academic Forum was established in 2004 in Busan to promote intellectual and personal exchanges among next-generation researchers from Korea and Japan. The secretariat of the forum is managed by the Japan Research Center at Dongseo University. Every year, the international academic conference is held alternately in Korea and Japan, with a large number of next-generation researchers currently enrolled in master's and doctoral programs in both countries participating.
