Measures to Protect On-Site Workers During Heatwaves: ▲Temporary Suspension ▲Work Hour Adjustment ▲Contract Period Adjustment
Reducing Company Burden and Preventing Worker Safety Accidents Through Heatwave-Related Contract Execution Guidelines
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) will take measures to temporarily suspend work at construction and service sites commissioned by the district if there is concern about disasters caused by heatwaves.
With consecutive heatwave warnings recently, the daily maximum perceived temperature is approaching 40 degrees Celsius, leading to a surge in heat-related illnesses and deaths.
The district is implementing the "Heatwave-related Local Government Contract Execution Guidelines," which comprehensively consider site conditions and contract status to ensure compliance with safety and health obligations and to prevent issues in contract progress through measures such as temporary work suspension, aiming to protect the health and safety of workers exposed to prolonged heatwave conditions.
These guidelines, provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, include key measures such as ▲temporary work suspension ▲adjustment of working hours ▲adjustment of contract periods.
If work becomes difficult or there is a risk of safety accidents due to the heatwave, supervisors can check site conditions and temporarily suspend work.
Additionally, when temporary suspension is difficult due to the nature of the contract, the district has arranged for work hours to be changed to holidays and nighttime to avoid heatwave periods and fulfill the contract.
Furthermore, if contract fulfillment is difficult due to temporary work suspension or reduced working hours, the contract period will be extended considering the daily reduced working hours.
District Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Please refrain from going out during the hottest hours as much as possible, and take sufficient rest after outdoor activities,” adding, “We will strive to prevent heat-related illnesses among site workers through the contract execution guidelines and ensure that contracting companies do not bear undue burdens.”
