COVID-19 cases are rapidly increasing in Gyeonggi-do.
According to Gyeonggi-do on the 7th, an analysis of hospitalized COVID-19 patients was conducted on 45 hospital-level sentinel surveillance institutions with more than 200 beds in the province. The number of patients increased more than twofold from 58 in June to 128 in July. This is about three times higher compared to 47 patients in May.
Gyeonggi-do attributes this to the decline of the JN.1 variant, which had been prevalent since January, and the rise of the globally increasing Omicron KP.3 variant. The main symptoms of KP.3 infection include cough, fever above 38℃, headache, difficulty breathing, sore throat, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
When COVID-19 symptoms appear, the recommended actions are ▲conducting a rapid antigen test either independently or with professional assistance ▲maintaining distance from others ▲avoiding public transportation and going out.
If symptoms such as difficulty breathing, persistent chest pain or pressure, new confusion, inability to wake or decreased consciousness, or pale or bluish skin, lips, or nail beds occur, contact 119 immediately to receive necessary assistance.
Particular caution is advised for the elderly, those with underlying conditions, and others with weakened immune systems, as they may develop severe illness. People with weakened immunity should visit a hospital if symptoms do not improve within 48 to 72 hours to check for progression to pneumonia.
To prevent respiratory infectious diseases, follow the five key prevention rules: cover your mouth with your sleeve when coughing, wash hands with soap under running water for at least 30 seconds, avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, ventilate indoor spaces frequently, and visit medical institutions immediately if you have fever or respiratory symptoms.
Gyeonggi-do will conduct COVID-19 vaccinations for seniors aged 65 and older starting October 11.
Yu Young-cheol, Director of the Gyeonggi-do Health and Wellness Bureau, stated, "To prevent COVID-19, always wear a mask in crowded places and avoid overwork or lack of sleep to maintain immunity. Wash your hands thoroughly and ventilate indoor spaces frequently to prevent the spread of COVID-19."
