Russia Condemns as "Terrorist Act Targeting Civilians"
Ukraine's attacks on the border area of Kursk Oblast in southwestern Russia have continued for the second day.
On the 7th (local time), the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Ukraine conducted an airstrike on the Kursk border area that day. It also added that overnight, 11 drones launched by Ukraine targeting Russia's Kursk, Voronezh, Belgorod, and Rostov were destroyed.
Alexey Smirnov, acting governor of Kursk Oblast, also stated on Telegram that three drones were shot down by Russian air defense systems in the Kursk border area that day. He explained that air raid alerts were issued 12 times in the past 24 hours.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that it repelled a Ukrainian force of over 300 soldiers, supported by tanks and armored vehicles, who attacked villages near the Kursk border the previous day, and sent reservists to the combat zone to support this effort.
Foreign media noted that amid Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine approaching two and a half years, this clash is one of the largest ground incursions on Russian territory. They also analyzed that while Ukraine has been attacking Russian territory with drones and missiles, it is rare for them to launch raids involving infantry.
A hospital official in the Kursk region reported that five civilians were killed and 28 injured over two days due to Ukrainian attacks. Among the five who died the previous day, two were ambulance drivers and rescue workers, and six of the injured were children, according to local authorities.
