Gwangjin-gu Launches Full-Scale Operation of Heatwave Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) actively responded to the heatwave by holding an "Emergency Inspection Situation Assessment Meeting of the Heatwave Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters" at 3 p.m. on the 6th.

The meeting, chaired by Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, was attended by 23 related department heads, including the Director of the Safety and Environment Bureau. As Seoul City raised the heatwave crisis level to the highest level, "Severe," the "Gwangjin-gu Heatwave Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (Jae-daebon)" was immediately activated to urgently inspect the response status of each department, including protection activities for vulnerable groups and public relations.

The district plans to prevent heatwave damage and protect the safety and health of residents through measures such as ▲strengthening welfare checks for vulnerable groups ▲expanding operation of heatwave reduction facilities ▲strengthening safety measures for outdoor workers such as construction workers ▲expanding the operation of water spraying trucks to lower urban temperatures ▲suspending outdoor events during heatwave hours.

They also inspected the field. They visited Jungnangcheon Water Playground, Gwangjin Saengsuteo in Junggok-dong, and the Smart Safety Shelter in Ginkgo-rang Park to carefully check whether heatwave reduction facilities were operating normally and whether there were any inconveniences such as welfare checks for the elderly.

Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, "We will continuously manage the heatwave countermeasure response situation and take necessary actions to ensure that residents do not suffer damage from the heatwave," adding, "Please refrain from going out during the hottest hours as much as possible and spend the summer safely by taking sufficient rest and hydration when working outdoors."

Park Jung-hwa, Director of the Urban Safety Division, urged, "Heatwave reduction facilities such as smart shelters, shade tents, and cooling fog are installed throughout the streets. Please use them comfortably when it is hot and difficult."

Meanwhile, since May, the district has been protecting residents' safety by establishing 15 safety management measures in four major areas to proactively respond to summer heatwaves: ▲heatwave situation management and response system establishment ▲protection measures for vulnerable groups ▲operation and expansion of heatwave reduction facilities ▲minimization of heatwave damage.
