'Fun Math' Commemorative Stamps Issued 510,000 Copies... Available for Purchase from the 14th

The Korea Post announced on the 7th that it will issue 510,000 commemorative stamps titled "Fun Mathematics" on the 14th of this month.

The commemorative stamps feature the magic square called "Jisugwimundo" and the mathematical concept of the "God's Number," which refers to the minimum number of moves required to find the optimal solution.

The stamps are characterized by illustrating difficult and complex mathematical concepts in an easy-to-understand visual form.

Jisugwimundo is said to have been created by Choi Seok-jeong, a mathematician from the Joseon Dynasty. It consists of nine hexagons connected in the shape of a turtle shell. Numbers from 1 to 30 are arranged at the vertices of the hexagons, and the sum of the six numbers at the vertices is 93. In Choi Seok-jeong's book "Gusuryak," many unique types of magic squares besides Jisugwimundo are also introduced.

The "God's Number" for the 3x3x3 cubic Rubik's Cube was invented by Ern? Rubik, a Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture. Mathematicians have conducted decades of research since the 1980s and proved in 2010 that the God's Number is 20.

The commemorative stamps can be purchased by visiting a nearby main post office or through the online post office.
