Hancom Targets Europe with Cloud Office Applying Encryption Technology

Hancom announced on the 7th that its subsidiary Thinkfree has signed a strategic business agreement with French security specialist ERCOM to target the European market by developing a cloud office applying encryption technology.

ERCOM, headquartered in France, is a mobility security solutions company established in 1986. ERCOM has developed technologies and products that protect mobile devices, networks, and communication systems using advanced encryption technology. In 2019, it was acquired by the Thales Group, the 10th largest defense company in France.

ERCOM's collaboration solution, Cryptobox, applies end-to-end encryption technology, which delivers all processes from the sender to the receiver in an encrypted state, securely protecting internal and external shared files.

Through this agreement, both companies will analyze and reorganize their key product lines, including cloud office and security solutions, and jointly develop a cloud office with enhanced convenience and security.

Thinkfree plans to integrate its cloud office, Thinkfree Office, with ERCOM's Cryptobox and apply end-to-end encryption technology to enable users to safely co-edit documents even in an online environment. The jointly developed cloud office will be directly adopted and used within the Thales Group, and Hancom plans to use this reference as a foothold for entering the European and global markets.

Hancom stated that as Europe has recently emphasized the importance of personal data protection and data sovereignty, leading to increased demand for end-to-end encryption technology, they will promote the expansion of cloud-based document editing solutions incorporating this technology in the European market.
