On the 7th (local time), at the Le Golf National Olympic Course (par 72) in Guyancourt near Paris, France, where the women's golf event of the Paris Olympics is held, smoking is prohibited. For this Olympics, the entire golf competition area has been designated as a non-smoking zone in accordance with Paris's health and safety guidelines.

World No. 11 Hull said in an interview with the AP News on the 6th, "I have a habit of smoking during games, but I will not smoke this week. I understand it is not allowed." He emphasized, "My father, who is 75 years old this year, smoked for 40 years since he was 12, and my whole family are smokers. Smoking is very familiar to me."

Hull attracted attention when a video of her smoking during the US Women's Open in June and signing autographs for fans with a cigarette in her mouth spread on social media. She also enjoyed smoking during the Aramco Series of the European Ladies Tour (LET) held in Korea in June.

Although Hull expressed her intention to quit smoking this week, she also revealed concerns. "Smoking calms me psychologically. I think it will affect my performance," she said. She has two wins on the LPGA Tour and three wins on the LET. This is her second Olympic appearance. She first competed at the 2016 Rio Games. She did not participate in the 2020 Tokyo Games due to concerns about COVID-19 infection.
