Composed of Shin Yubin, Jeon Jihee, and Lee Eunhye, the Korean team defeated Sweden 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the women's team event at the 2024 Paris Olympics held on the 6th (local time) at the South Paris Arena in France. This marks the first time in 12 years since the 2012 London Games, where Korea finished fourth, that Korean table tennis has reached the semifinals in the Olympic women's team event.
Korea now needs just one more win to secure a medal in this event for the first time in 16 years since the 2008 Beijing Games. Their next opponent will be the winner of the China-Taiwan match held on the 7th. If Korea wins the semifinal on the 8th, they will secure at least a silver medal. If they lose, they will move to the bronze medal match to compete for third place.
The gold medal doubles pair from the Hangzhou Asian Games, Shin Yubin and Jeon Jihee, led the victory. In the first doubles match, they defeated Filippa Bergand and Christina K?lberer 3-0 (11-2, 11-7, 11-5). Lee Eunhye, playing second singles, overcame Sweden’s ace Linda Beristrom, who uses a defensive style and a Jileurver, 3-1 (2-11, 11-4, 12-10, 13-11). Jeon Jihee also won the third singles match against K?lberer 3-1 (8-11, 13-11, 11-6, 11-6).
