Pohang City to Launch Digital Twin Pilot Zone... Establishes Collaborative System Pohang City held a strategy meeting to establish a collaboration system for the "Digital Twin Pilot Zone Development Project."

The meeting was organized to gather opinions for interdepartmental cooperation, such as data collection and utilization for digital twin services.

Digital twin refers to a virtual model that digitally replicates real-world objects or spaces. This technology reflects real data in the virtual model to predict and respond to problems in advance, and it is being applied in various fields such as healthcare, transportation, tourism, and urban development.

Previously, in April, Pohang City and North Gyeongsang Province were finally selected for the rural-type category of the 'Digital Twin Pilot Zone Development' public contest hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

This project will designate the Guryongpo and Homigot areas in Pohang as pilot zones and invest a total project cost of 22.7 billion KRW, including 14.1 billion KRW in national funding, by 2026. The project aims to build an integrated digital twin platform, establish and link citizen-oriented services, and create a representative export model for digital twin technology. It is the first project in the nation to address rural social issues in this way.

Starting in the second half of this year, the city plans to provide a total of 12 citizen-oriented services, beginning with the development of four digital twin services in the environmental sector, and expanding into tourism and safety sectors in the future.

In the environmental sector, services will be developed to monitor changes in air and marine environments in real time, predict crisis situations, and provide rapid alerts.

In the tourism and safety sectors, the city will analyze vehicle flow and population movement patterns to offer a tourism service infrastructure that satisfies users, and establish safety response services to predict and address dangerous situations around the port area.

Kwon Hyukwon, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau, said, "We will scientifically approach and solve the complex social problems faced by the region based on data using digital technology, so that citizens can experience a safer and more convenient life. We will build a competitive digital twin model and lead the digital era with Pohang at the forefront."
