Nationwide First Taekwondo Demonstration Festival Held, Drawing Attention as a Sports Festival
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, is heating up Useulbeol with a sports festival that surpasses the Olympic fever.
Despite the ongoing heatwave, Haenam-gun is accelerating the development of the sports industry and revitalization of the local economy by attracting summer training camps and nationwide sports competitions through year-round sports marketing.
According to the county on the 6th, the summer training camps that began last month have brought 19 teams and 362 people to Haenam, starting with the modern pentathlon team from Wanju County Office.
In particular, from the 1st to the 13th of this month, 28 modern pentathlon national team hopefuls are visiting Haenam, sweating daily as they nurture their dreams of representing the country in the next Olympics.

Haenam-gun plans to attract a total of about 20,000 athletes through summer training camps and sports competitions, expecting economic effects comparable to the 2023?2024 winter training camps, which attracted about 30,000 participants.
Along with this, many nationwide sports competitions will be held during the summer period. Starting with the 3rd Ttangkkeut Haenam National Elementary School Volleyball Tournament held from the 2nd to the 6th, the 2024 Ttangkkeut Cup National Taekwondo Demonstration Festival from the 7th to the 11th, the Ttangkkeut Haenam Cup National Youth Basketball Tournament from the 9th to the 11th, the 5th National University Golf Tournament from the 12th to the 14th, and the Ttangkkeut Haenam Cup National Youth Club Soccer Tournament from the 15th to the 19th, five nationwide competitions will be held consecutively.
Most of these competitions are youth tournaments held during school vacations, providing important opportunities for skill assessment through national competitions and individual growth of athletes.
Haenam-gun also plans to maximize synergy effects by supporting various events, tourism, and experiential activities that families of athletes can enjoy together.
For the elementary volleyball tournament, a recreation and dance party themed “Winning is good, losing is okay” was planned for families and players to participate together, and various events such as the Haenam Tourism SNS Contest for university golf players are providing enjoyment to sportspeople visiting Haenam-gun.
Especially, from the 7th to the 11th, the 1st Haenam Ttangkkeut Cup National Taekwondo Demonstration Festival will be held at Haenam County Square, presenting a unique sports stage where not only athletes but also residents and tourists can participate. The demonstration festival is the nation’s first Taekwondo demonstration performance competition, and on the 10th at 7 p.m., a congratulatory stage by the nationally renowned demonstration team, which has gained worldwide popularity, will be held.
County Governor Myeong Hyeon-gwan said, “Haenam-gun is achieving remarkable effects in revitalizing the local economy through sports marketing, a clean industry without chimneys,” and added, “We expect that various sports competitions held in Haenam this summer will allow people to experience the essence of year-round sports marketing.”
