Suan 119 Safety Center Ambulance Ride-Along Contributes to Emergency Rescue
Lee Donggyu, a third-year student in the Department of Emergency Medical Technology at Dong-Eui University of Science and Technology (President: Kim Youngdo, Department Head: Park Youngsoo), was selected as a Heart Saver after saving a precious life during an ambulance ride-along practicum.
Student Donggyu Lee from the Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology was selected as a Heart Saver and is posing for a commemorative photo.
The Heart Saver program is a system in which the National Fire Agency awards a certificate and a Heart Saver badge to individuals who have revived a patient in cardiac arrest through emergency measures such as CPR and use of a defibrillator.
This program has been in place since 2008 to boost the pride of paramedics and ordinary citizens who save lives and to encourage active participation in emergency care.
During his ambulance ride-along practicum at the Suan 119 Safety Center of the Dongnae Fire Station, Lee Donggyu contributed to saving a precious life by assisting 119 paramedics in restoring consciousness and spontaneous breathing to a citizen in critical condition.
The criteria for receiving the Heart Saver award require that a cardiac arrest patient who received emergency care must meet all three conditions: ▲ restoration of heart rhythm before arriving at the hospital ▲ recovery of consciousness before or after arrival ▲ survival for at least 72 hours after arrival with full recovery.
Lee Donggyu said, "First, I would like to thank the paramedic team leaders for their dedication and hard work. Through this experience, I have gained pride in my department and major," and added, "This experience has motivated me to pass the national exam for Level 1 Emergency Medical Technician and to do my best to protect the lives and safety of the public."
Park Youngsoo, head of the Department of Emergency Medical Technology at Dong-Eui University of Science and Technology, promised, "Through field ambulance practicums and clinical emergency medicine practicums, we will do our utmost to guide our students so they can understand the emergency medical system and acquire the knowledge and character required to become better emergency medical technicians."
In February 2024, all graduates of the Department of Emergency Medical Technology at Dong-Eui University of Science and Technology achieved a 100% pass rate on the national exam.
Additionally, with the goal of nurturing emergency medical professionals, the department is strengthening major courses tailored to field duties for national certification, and is making continuous efforts to help students grow under expert guidance through annual emergency room and ambulance ride-along practicums.
