A woman in Indonesia sparked controversy locally after leaving two children, including a baby in a stroller, unattended in an elevator and exiting alone.
Recently, CCTV footage from an apartment elevator in Jakarta, Indonesia, has been circulating widely on social media (SNS).
The video shows the elevator arriving with a woman, presumed to be the mother, and two children boarding. When the elevator stopped at the 15th floor, the woman appeared to leave the children alone in the elevator as if to leave the luggage she was carrying at home, exiting by herself. The child pressed the open button while waiting for the woman, but just as she tried to get back on the elevator, the doors suddenly closed. The child repeatedly pressed the open button in apparent panic, but the closed doors did not open.

The elevator then descended to the 10th floor with only the children inside. Two adults who entered the elevator at the 10th floor looked surprised to see only young children and spoke to them, to which the child replied that their mother was on the upper floor.
They stayed with the children until the elevator reached the 15th floor to ensure their safety. When the elevator arrived at the 15th floor, the children’s mother was standing by the door, and the woman smiled brightly after confirming the children’s presence.
Local netizens who viewed the video expressed outrage with comments such as "How can a mother leave her children and get off?", "She is unfit to be a mother," "Leaving children unattended, even briefly, is a crime," and "It could have ended in disaster."
On the other hand, some defended the woman, saying, "She must have been distracted," and "No one was hurt, so let's stop the criticism."
