Baek is accused of killing a man identified as A (43), a resident of the same apartment complex, by wielding a weapon in front of the main gate of an apartment in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, at around 11:30 p.m. on the 29th of last month.

According to the police, Baek was found to have no personal acquaintance with A. A was a father of two sons aged 9 and 4, who had stepped outside briefly to smoke a cigarette when the incident occurred.

During the police investigation, Baek stated that he committed the crime because he believed the victim was persistently stalking him as a spy.

On the 1st, Baek appeared in court for a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) and told reporters, "I am not mentally impaired. I committed the act with a sound mind."

The police obtained a warrant for a body search after Baek refused a drug test and conducted a rapid drug screening test, which came back negative. The police have requested a detailed analysis from the National Forensic Service.
