"Refuses to Let Girlfriend Off Work"... 20s Sentenced to Prison for Damaging Friend's Car and Assault

On the 5th, Judge Song Seon-yang of the Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 1 announced that A (27), who was charged with injury, special intimidation, and special property damage, was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison. Earlier, A was accused of smashing his friend B’s (26) car, which was parked on a road in Seo-gu, Daejeon, with an aluminum baseball bat around 6 a.m. on April 21.

A threatened B, who tried to stop him, with the baseball bat as if to hit him, and also assaulted him several times with his fists. It is known that A committed these crimes after receiving a message from his girlfriend, who worked at a nightlife establishment owned by B, saying that she was not allowed to leave work, which enraged him.

The court explained the sentencing by saying, “The defendant confessed to the crime and is remorseful, and the victim who reached a settlement does not want the defendant to be punished,” but added, “Despite being on probation for a special injury sentence last year, the defendant did not reform and committed the crime during the probation period, making a prison sentence unavoidable.”
