Passion Hotter Than the Sun... POSCO Pohang Steelworks Shares 'Community Love Unstoppable Even by Heatwave'

45 Talent Volunteer Groups at Steel Mill Join Hands with Local Community

Amidst an unprecedented heatwave, the volunteer activities of employees at Pohang Steelworks continue this summer, undeterred by the scorching weather.

Passion Hotter Than the Sun... POSCO Pohang Steelworks Shares 'Community Love Unstoppable Even by Heatwave' An employee of the Pohang Steelworks Electrical Steel Sheet Department purchased corn grown in Yakjeon 1-ri, Donghae-myeon on the 12th of last month and is taking a commemorative photo.

In July, various volunteer groups such as the Eco Farm Volunteer Group, Hand Stitch Sharing Knitting Talent Volunteer Group, Happiness Sharing Mural Volunteer Group, Photography Volunteer Group, Plogging Volunteer Group, and Painting Volunteer Group devoted their evenings and weekends to sweating it out in different parts of the local community where help was needed.

Each department of the steelworks was busy reaching out to their sister towns, villages, and affiliated organizations to offer assistance.

On the 12th of last month, employees from the Electrical Steel Plate Department purchased 40 sacks (800 pieces) of corn, a summer crop from their sister village Yakjeon 1-ri, while on the same day, the Plate Department delivered 16 watermelons to the Yongheung-dong Administrative Welfare Center to be distributed to local senior centers.

The Ironmaking Department visits the Daehae Bulbit Market in Haedo-dong every fourth Thursday of the month to support local merchants.

Kim Sunshik, Deputy General Manager of the External Cooperation Group, stated, "As Pohang Steelworks employees actively participate in talent volunteering and sister village partnership activities, 'volunteering and sharing' has naturally become part of our culture," adding, "The number of participants and cumulative hours of annual volunteer activities continue to increase each year."

Since the launch of the POSCO Volunteer Group in May 2003, more than 3,000 POSCO employees in the Pohang area have been steadily involved in 45 Pohang Steelworks talent volunteer groups, combining their professional skills with a passion for sharing.
