Writer Ryu Seung-yeon's Moving True Story on Screen... 'To Her' Opens September 11

The film "To Her," starring actor Kim Jaehwa, is set to be released on September 11, the distributor Yeonghwaroun Brothers announced on the 5th.


"To Her" (directed by Lee Sangcheol) is a film adaptation of the essay "I Decline, The Neighborhood Fool," written by author Ryu Seungyeon, a former political reporter and a parent of a child with developmental disabilities. Author Ryu participated in the film's screenplay, adding authenticity. The film depicts Sangyeon, a mother of a child with disabilities, discovering happiness amid pain over a span of 10 years. Actor Kim Jaehwa plays Sangyeon, the mother of a child with developmental disabilities. The film was invited to the 28th Busan International Film Festival, the 49th Seoul Independent Film Festival, the 12th Muju Mountain Valley Film Festival, and the 1st 6111 Film Festival.


Crowdfunding on Tumblbug opened on the 29th of last month and will continue until the 18th of this month. The purpose is to convey the film's value to audiences by fostering empathy among families with disabilities and breaking prejudices and changing perspectives among non-disabled viewers. Supporters will receive gifts according to their donation amount, including invitations to the film premiere, credits in the ending credits, the original book, Ryu's upcoming new book, and products made by the disability protection workshop 'Nonsan Balgeuraeilteo.'
