Choi Sunhwa, Retired Professor of Silla University, Donates 500 Million Won to Development Fund

Donates Fund for University Development and Nurturing Future Scholars

Silla University announced that retired Professor Choi Sunhwa has donated 500 million KRW as a development fund for the advancement of the university and the nurturing of future scholars.

Professor Choi Sunhwa received her Ph.D. from Ewha Womans University and joined Silla University as a professor in the Department of Social Welfare in 1988. Until her retirement in 2020, she not only devoted herself to educating future generations but also authored numerous books such as "Changes with Social Workers" and left behind many research achievements that presented deep consideration and alternatives for the expansion of social welfare practices, counseling, women's welfare, and family welfare.

She also served as the director of the Silla University Institute for Women's Issues, the Institute of Social Sciences, and the Sasang-gu Welfare Center for the Disabled, contributing greatly not only to academic activities but also to the application of professional knowledge in the field.

In particular, from 2007 to 2018, she served for over a decade as the second director of the Sasang-gu Welfare Center for the Disabled, which was operated by Silla University. During this time, the center was selected as an excellent institution by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Busan City in their evaluations of welfare centers for the disabled, and she worked tirelessly to improve welfare for the disabled and raise social awareness regarding people with disabilities.

Having educated future generations for 32 years, Professor Choi decided to make this donation to contribute to the development of Silla University and the nurturing of talented individuals. She also expressed her intention to continue supporting Silla University and its students in the future.

President Heo Namsik of Silla University said, "I am grateful that Professor Choi Sunhwa, who has made significant contributions to the specialization of our university's social welfare field, has made such a generous donation for the development of the university even after her retirement," and added, "We will do our utmost for the development of the university and the nurturing of future scholars so that the professor's dedication to Silla University can be conveyed to our students."
