Korea Forest Service Selected for Landscape Improvement Urban Forest Project
The city of Daejeon announced that Hanbat Arboretum and Temi Park Urban Forest have been selected as part of the Korea Forest Service's "Top 50 Beautiful Premium Urban Forests Nationwide."
According to the roles and functions of urban forests, five types were classified, including climate change response type, and public preference surveys as well as accessibility, ecological health, and scenic value were evaluated. As a result, Daejeon was selected in the landscape improvement type urban forest category.
Hanbat Arboretum is the largest arboretum within a city in the central region, where visitors can enjoy the vibrant spring flowers such as roses in spring, bald cypress and various trees in summer, and colorful autumn foliage in fall, offering scenic changes throughout the four seasons.
Temi Park Urban Forest is famous for its cherry trees that cover the entire hill, making the whole park appear as one gigantic flower, creating a spectacular flower forest. During summer, the average midday temperature is 3 to 7 degrees lower than the city center, making it a popular spot for citizens seeking relaxation in their daily lives.
Park Dohyun, Director of Greenery and Agro-Bio at Daejeon City, stated, "This year, Daejeon is investing 9.3 billion won to create various urban forests, including climate-responsive urban forests," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that citizens can enjoy relaxation and leisure in urban forests."
