In the Gwangju primary of the nationwide party member convention to elect the next leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea, candidate Lee Jae-myung continued his landslide victory. In the supreme council member primary, candidate Min Hyung-bae ranked first in his constituency.

According to the Democratic Party on the 4th, candidate Lee recorded 83.61% of the votes in the Gwangju regional party leader primary held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju. Candidates Kim Du-kwan and Kim Ji-soo received 14.56% and 1.82% of the votes, respectively.

The party leader candidates emphasized their ties with Gwangju, the heart of the progressive camp. In the joint speech session that day, candidate Lee said, "Gwangju made Lee Jae-myung, a factory worker who was no different from Ilgan Best Storage (Ilbe), reborn as a citizen of the Republic of Korea who thinks about democracy." Candidate Kim Du-kwan raised his voice, saying, "A conscience that does not act is on the side of evil. I remember former President Kim Dae-jung, who said that if you have no strength to resist injustice, at least shout with a pillow." Candidate Kim Ji-soo emphasized, "I will protect the democracy that our seniors defended and won, and protect the Republic of Korea."

In the Gwangju regional supreme council member primary, candidate Min ranked first with 27.77%. Following were Kim Min-seok (17.42%), Han Jun-ho (11.67%), Jeong Bong-ju (11.58%), Jeon Hyun-hee (10.73%), Kim Byung-joo (8.31%), Lee Eon-ju (9.04%), and Kang Seon-woo (3.48%).

In the afternoon, a touring primary is scheduled to be held in the Jeonnam region.
