Pohang City Ensures Thorough Safety Management at Construction Sites to Prevent Heat-Related Illnesses During Heatwave

Minimizing Damage, Full Emergency Collaboration Across Departments

Construction Site Inspections and Heat Illness Accident Prevention Management

Pohang City is taking thorough measures to prevent heat-related damage to construction site workers who are vulnerable to heat waves, as heat wave advisories have been issued nationwide.

Pohang City Ensures Thorough Safety Management at Construction Sites to Prevent Heat-Related Illnesses During Heatwave Outdoor Field Worker Heatwave Safety Guidelines Poster.

Starting from the 25th of last month, the city has been operating a two-week intensive response period for heat waves, actively disseminating the "Guidelines for Responding to Each Stage of Heat Waves Based on Perceived Temperature" and the "Prevention Guide for Heat-Related Illnesses During Summer Heat Waves" to each construction site, thereby strengthening promotional activities regarding safety protocols for on-site workers.

Additionally, the city is thoroughly guiding administrative measures to minimize heat-related damage by reinforcing heat stroke prevention education for all construction site workers and ensuring the sufficient provision of water, shade, and rest breaks.

For site managers, a checklist for the prevention of heat-related illnesses has been distributed to strengthen the safety and health management system for workers. The city also plans to continuously visit construction sites to thoroughly inspect and implement worker protection measures, and to immediately address any areas in need of improvement to fundamentally prevent the occurrence of heat-related illnesses.

In particular, if outdoor work is suspended when the perceived temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius, the city plans to actively reflect this in the extension of construction project schedules.

Kim Hyunku, Head of the Construction and Transportation Business Headquarters, stated, "Since construction sites involve a lot of outdoor work, they are extremely vulnerable to heat waves. We will actively provide guidance and conduct inspections to ensure that the three key rules?providing water, shade, and rest?are strictly observed so that there are no casualties or safety accidents at construction sites."
