Recognition for Defending National Territory and Liberal Democracy
On the 2nd, Uiryeong County in Gyeongnam presented the Hwarang Order of Military Merit to the family (child Hong Wonki) of the late Corporal Hong Seongtaek, a Korean War veteran, in front of the memorial for national heroes and military merit recipients.
The late Corporal Hong Seongtaek enlisted in the 7th Infantry Division of the Army in 1950 and participated in numerous battles during the Korean War, risking his life to defend the territory and liberal democracy of the Republic of Korea. In recognition of these merits, he was awarded the Hwarang Order of Military Merit.

On this day, County Governor Oh Taewan said, "We must never forget the sacrifices made by Korean War veterans for the nation," and added, "I am pleased that we are able to present this medal to the bereaved family, even if belatedly. We will continue to work harder to improve the welfare of those eligible for national merit."

Meanwhile, the county is also actively participating in the 'Korean War Order of Military Merit Recipient Search Campaign,' which aims to promptly award the Order of Military Merit to those who were selected as recipients for their contributions during the Korean War but have not yet received the medal, or to their families, as part of an initiative led by the Ministry of National Defense.
