Parents of Huimun High School Submit Petition to Education Office
Raise Issues Over 'Negligence in Duty'
Huimunsuk Requests Reconsideration from Education Office
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has requested disciplinary action following an audit of Huimun High School and its foundation Huimunsuk, amid allegations of dual employment violations involving basketball coach Hyun Joo-yeop.
According to education circles on the 2nd, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education notified Huimunsuk of the audit results last month.
The audit results included requests for disciplinary measures against those involved, but the Office of Education did not disclose the details of the notification or whether it concerned specific individuals.
Additionally, Huimunsuk recently requested a reconsideration from the Office of Education, disputing the disciplinary content. The final audit results from the Office of Education regarding Huimunsuk, after reconsideration and other procedures, are expected to be released around the end of September.
Earlier, in March of this year, a parent of a student at Huimun High School submitted a petition to the Office of Education, claiming that Coach Hyun neglected his duties due to broadcasting activities such as filming "mukbang" and improperly appointed his high school senior as an assistant coach responsible for training.
The Office of Education conducted a special inspection of Huimun High School starting in early April, then launched a formal audit to investigate the matter, and also requested a police investigation.
Coach Hyun's side denies the allegations of negligence. In June, the agency representing Coach Hyun stated, "It has been confirmed that the insufficient working hours were compensated through alternative work," and added, "The allegations of dual employment and negligence are not true, and the media outlet that first reported the suspicions has issued a correction."
