Daedong Hospital received a first-grade rating in the third Anesthesia Appropriateness Assessment conducted by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA), achieving a perfect score of 100 points, following its first-grade rating in the second assessment.
Since 2018, HIRA has been conducting anesthesia appropriateness assessments to improve the quality of medical care in the field of anesthesia and to establish a foundation for patient safety management. This latest assessment targeted tertiary hospitals, general hospitals, and hospitals that claimed anesthesia fees for more than 30 cases from January to March 2023.
The assessment criteria included: ▲ average monthly anesthesia time per anesthesiology specialist ▲ rate of pre-anesthesia patient evaluations ▲ proportion of patients maintaining normal body temperature during and after anesthesia ▲ operation of a recovery room ▲ rate of measurement of nausea, vomiting, and pain scores in the recovery room. The average total score of other institutions was 89.7 points.
Out of 399 institutions, 219 received a first-grade rating with scores of 95 points or higher, accounting for 54.9% of the total. Daedong Hospital achieved a first-grade rating with a perfect score of 100 points.
Lee Gwangjae, Director of Daedong Hospital, stated, "As we prioritize patient safety above all else, we have equipped the anesthesia department with appropriate personnel, equipment, and facilities, and established a management system, which led to this first-grade rating in the assessment. We will continue to strive for patient safety in the future."
