Busan Urban Corporation Accelerates 'Western Busan Administrative Complex Town' Project... Building Permit Approved

Construction to Begin Next Year, Completion Targeted for 2027 with Administrative Focus

Relocation of Some Busan City Departments, Anchor Facility in West Busan

Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC) completed the building permit process for the 'Western Busan Administrative Complex Town Construction Project' on July 31, aiming to improve operational efficiency through the consolidation of public institutions and to promote balanced development between the eastern and western regions.

To ensure smooth progress of the project, BMC applied for a building permit to Sasang District Office on May 31 and coordinated with 26 related agencies (departments), including the Architecture Department of Sasang District Office and Busan Transportation Corporation.

Additionally, as an underground integrated building connected to Sasang Smart City Station, the project underwent procedures such as a preliminary disaster impact review for disaster management, performance-based design review and evaluation to ensure fire safety performance, and an educational environment assessment to protect the educational environment.

During the various review procedures for the building permit, opinions were raised regarding a rainwater barrier plan to prevent flooding at the subway station connected to the Western Busan Administrative Complex Town, a detailed structural analysis of the bridge connecting the two buildings at the 10th floor above ground, and the installation of gas fire suppression systems in the data center within the civil service building.

The Western Busan Administrative Complex Town is a key anchor facility in the Western Busan redevelopment project, located in the activation zone of Sasang Regeneration District in Hakjang-dong, Sasang-gu.

With a total floor area of approximately 89,000m², the complex will consist of two buildings: one with five underground floors and 14 above-ground floors, and another with 31 floors. It will house a total of 17 institutions, including some departments of Busan City Hall such as the Urban Innovation and Balance Office, as well as Busan Institute of Urban Affairs and Busan Tourism Organization. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2025, with completion targeted for 2027.

Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, stated, "The Western Busan Administrative Complex Town is a key project for balanced regional development and improving administrative convenience for residents in the western Busan area. With the building permit now secured, we will ensure smooth progress so that the project can proceed without delay."
