Global AI Research Teams Achieve First Place in 'JustRAIGS' and 'IJCAI Challenge'
The AI research team of ‘Team Reboot’ (CEO Choi Sungcheol), a faculty startup from National Pukyong University specializing in AI-based enterprise solutions, has recently proven its technological prowess by winning consecutive artificial intelligence competitions both domestically and internationally.
Team Reboot recently formed a joint research team with the medical AI company ‘VUNO’ (CEO Lee Yeha) and participated in the international AI challenge ‘JustRAIGS’ for glaucoma screening based on fundus images, where they secured first place overall.
In this competition, which featured over 300 AI engineers from around the world and leading academic experts from institutions such as Northwestern University and the University of Illinois, the Team Reboot-VUNO research team ranked first in both areas: determining suspected glaucoma (Task 1) and identifying ten glaucoma-related features (Task 2).
Notably, the algorithm developed by the research team can detect glaucomatous changes at an early stage and support accurate screening, which is expected to significantly contribute to the prevention of blindness caused by glaucoma in the future.
In addition, Team Reboot also took first place in both Track A and B at ‘VRDIU’, a competition for advancing document understanding technology hosted by IJCAI (International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence), one of the world’s most prestigious AI conferences. In this competition, which tested the ability to extract key information and understand the meaning of text from various documents, Team Reboot demonstrated a remarkable lead over other teams, proving its unrivaled technology in accurately extracting necessary information even from diverse unstructured documents.
Based on this technology, Team Reboot has recently succeeded in signing a contract with a shipping company to implement an automated voucher processing solution, simultaneously advancing both technology development and commercialization.
Team Reboot also excelled in the ‘SciCap Challenge’ held at the same conference. In this competition, which automatically generates descriptions of scientific paper images using AI, the team achieved overwhelming first place in both tracks. Especially in the long description generation track, the team outperformed humans, showcasing its capabilities in developing large language models (LLMs).
Kim Jaeyoung, Chief AI Officer (CAIO) of Team Reboot, stated, “Having secured first place with an overwhelming advantage against the world’s top AI research teams, we plan to actively utilize our proven AI technology in Team Reboot’s core fields such as logistics, trade, and manufacturing.” He added, “Building on these achievements, we will promote our technological capabilities through professional academic conferences and journals, and accelerate related patent applications.”
Team Reboot plans to leverage its world-class capabilities demonstrated over the past three months in various AI projects?including medical AI, document understanding, and image captioning?to integrate AI technology into logistics and manufacturing, accelerating the creation of new business models.
Lee Jongho, a participating researcher and graduate student at National Pukyong University, said, “The results from the IJCAI competition show that our team’s document understanding AI technology can deliver outstanding performance even with unstructured real-world documents.” He added, “We will continue to enhance our technology to provide practical solutions that truly benefit companies in the field.”
