Lee Jae-myung and Cho Kuk, 2-Hour Impromptu 'Lightning Meeting'... "Discussing Crisis Measures from Yongsan"

Lee Makes On-the-Spot Proposal to Representative Jo Guk in the Plenary Hall

Former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung and Jo Guk, leader of the Jo Guk Innovation Party, met at the National Assembly for nearly two hours to discuss ways to respond to the current political situation.

On the 1st, Jo visited Lee, who was seated in the very back row of the National Assembly plenary hall, and they started a conversation. Lee then spontaneously suggested continuing their discussion.

They then moved to the Democratic Party floor leader's office for a more informal meeting. Park Chan-dae, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party, was also present.

After about 1 hour and 50 minutes of discussion with Lee, Jo told reporters, "We shared concerns about the multiple national crises originating from Yongsan and discussed countermeasures."

Lee said, "Both the Democratic Party and the Jo Guk Innovation Party have many worries about the current political situation and many areas where we need to cooperate," adding, "We exchanged opinions on various fields." When asked if there was a plan from the opposition coalition amid the presidential veto situation, he replied, "We actually discussed many alternatives on that issue, but it is frustrating," and added, "The government and ruling party are not proposing anything, and they are only obstructing what the opposition and the people want to do, which is frustrating."

Jo also said, "We had a deep discussion on how to resolve the situation where the opposition won by gathering votes like this, but the president keeps vetoing bills." When asked if they talked about the allegations of state affairs manipulation, he said, "That's not something to discuss here," emphasizing, "It is a multiple crisis situation. Since there are more than one or two issues on the list, we ended up talking for a long time."

The two also appear to have discussed the Jo Guk Innovation Party's proposal to relax the requirements for forming a negotiation group. In response to a related question, Lee said, "We should talk about that too."
