Kim Myung-su, chairman of the Gwangsan District Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City, was elected as the 9th term second half chairman of the Regional Autonomous District Council Chairmen's Association.
Chairman Kim will represent the chairmen of the five autonomous district councils in the Gwangju area for the next two years, participating in the Korea Association of City, County, and District Council Chairmen, and will engage in various activities such as strengthening the status of basic councils and enhancing policy consultation functions for regional development.
On the 1st, Chairman Kim stated, “Despite the role of local councils being more important than ever in the face of population decline and the crisis of local extinction, local autonomy still remains half-hearted,” and expressed his ambition, saying, “Through communication and cooperation among the five chairmen, I will strive to raise the status of local councils and help the flower of grassroots democracy to bloom.”
