Asan City's Hot Spring Policy Wins Excellence Award at National Manifesto Competition

Announcement of the Nation's First Official Hot Spring City to Boost Hot Spring Medical Tourism

The policy to promote hot spring medical tourism through 'Healing Hot Spring Tourism' in Asan City, Chungnam Province, won the Excellence Award in the Regional Culture Revitalization category at the 2024 National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition.

The policy to promote the revitalization of hot spring medical tourism through 'healing hot spring tourism' in Asan, Chungnam, received the Excellence Award in the field of regional culture revitalization at the '2024 National Basic Local Government Manifesto Best Practices Competition'.

At this competition, Asan presented its policies for 'revitalizing hot spring medical tourism' to rejuvenate the local hot spring industry and the 'Participatory Autonomy Committee' to realize practical resident participation, making it to the finals.

Asan introduced its hot spring medical tourism revitalization policy, which includes: △establishment of the nation's only dedicated hot spring institution, the Healthcare Spa Industry Promotion Agency △promotion of including hot spring therapy in health insurance coverage △preparation of scientific data on hot spring therapy △development and implementation of strategies tailored to the characteristics of the three major hot springs △plans to establish a hot spring healing center and a hot spring therapy experience center for people with disabilities △training of hot spring healing tourism experts, and more, aiming to become the nation's first designated hot spring city.

Mayor Park Kyunggui said, "Asan has established a close cooperation system with leading domestic and international hot spring cities, hot spring research institutes, and hot spring businesses," adding, "Asan's efforts to enhance the industrial value of hot spring resources and to include hot spring therapy in health insurance will ultimately drive the development of the entire hot spring industry in Korea."
