Discontinuation of Ramen Service in Economy Class on Long-Haul Flights
Replaced with Hot Dogs and Pizza Amid Turbulence Burn Concerns
Korean Air has decided to stop providing ramen to economy class passengers on board. This is due to increased concerns about burn accidents caused by turbulence.
Korean Air announced on the 1st that it will end the ramen service for economy class passengers on long-haul flights starting from the 15th. The decision was made because turbulence has increased recently, raising the risk of burns from hot water in the densely seated economy class.

However, ramen will still be provided in Prestige Class and above. A Korean Air official explained, "In economy class, the seat density is high and the tables are small, so there is a greater risk of burns not only to the passengers eating ramen but also to those seated next to them. Flight attendants also have to deliver multiple cups of ramen at the same time, and if turbulence occurs, both passengers and crew could be harmed, so this measure is intended to prevent such incidents."
Accordingly, other snacks will be provided instead of ramen in economy class on long-haul flights. For flights departing from Korea, corn dogs or pizza will be offered, while Hot Pockets will be available on flights departing from overseas. Hot Pockets are foods filled with various fillings inside a pie crust. Since November, the in-flight self-service snack bar prepared for economy class passengers will also be further diversified.
A Korean Air official stated, "As a global leading airline, we will continue to seek service options that ensure safety while enhancing customer convenience and satisfaction."
