Surgery to Remove Bullet Performed Immediately After Childbirth
A man in Russia accidentally shot a bullet during target practice that lodged into his pregnant wife, resulting in the baby being born with an air rifle pellet inside its body.
On the 31st of last month (local time), British media outlet The Sun and other foreign news sources reported that a baby was born in Moscow, Russia, with a bullet measuring less than 1 cm in length and 0.5 cm in width embedded in its abdomen.
According to reports, the child ended up carrying the bullet in the womb due to the father's mistake. Before the baby was born, the husband was practicing shooting with an air rifle in his backyard. During this, a pellet suddenly ricocheted and struck his pregnant wife's abdomen. At the time, the wife was in her last month of pregnancy. She was rushed to the hospital. Tests confirmed that fortunately, the pellet did not affect any of the baby's vital organs. The hospital stated, "Ultrasound examinations showed no significant risk to the mother or baby’s life, and there were no signs indicating the need for emergency surgery."
The medical team determined that waiting until the baby was born was the safest course of action. The pellet removal surgery was performed immediately after delivery, and the pellet was lodged just beneath the newborn’s abdominal skin. After the surgery, both mother and baby are reported to be in good health.
Meanwhile, an air rifle is a type of firearm that fires by releasing compressed air or gas. Its destructive power can be as strong as firearms using gunpowder, and if it hits sensitive areas, it can cause serious injuries or even death.
Additionally, some pellets are made of lead, and if lead pellets remain inside the body for a long time, they can cause fatal lead poisoning, so caution is necessary.
