Ministry of Education to Enhance Public Education Quality for Educational Innovation
Uiryeong County in Gyeongnam is embarking on nurturing talent, using its selection as a pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone as a stepping stone.
According to Uiryeong County on the 31st, the county was included in the "2nd Pilot Areas for the Education Development Special Zone" announced by the Ministry of Education.
The Education Development Special Zone is a project in which local governments, education offices, universities, local businesses, and public institutions cooperate to improve the quality of public education and comprehensively support educational innovation and talent development.
With this selection, Uiryeong County will receive 9 billion KRW in national funding over the next three years.
Together with the provincial government and the provincial office of education, the county planned and applied for the "Gyeongnam-type Local Study Abroad Education Development Special Zone" to address population decline and the risk of regional extinction. After review by the Education Development Special Zone Committee, it was finally selected as a pilot area.
The Uiryeong County Education Development Special Zone will implement pilot projects centered on strategies such as promoting the Uiryeong County campus-type joint school (shared education), the IU-hak Project, converting Sinban Information High School into a Fire Safety Meister High School, converting the Uiryeong County Scholarship Foundation into the Uiryeong Talent Development Foundation, and providing opportunities for young people from other regions to experience life in Uiryeong to encourage settlement. The goals are to attract new residents, foster local talent with professional skills, and create conditions for young people to settle in the area.
In particular, the county plans to lay the foundation for nurturing local talent in connection with the Gyeongsangnam-do Future Education Center, which opened in Uiryeong-eup last September and is expected to attract 400,000 visitors annually.
County Governor Oh Taewan said, "Our proactive response to improving the educational environment and expanding scholarship projects has led to the great achievement of being designated as an Education Development Special Zone," adding, "Through the Education Development Special Zone, we will achieve dramatic improvements in the quality of education and quality of life."
