Lee Jin-sook, Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission, will hold a plenary meeting on the 31st to appoint directors of public broadcasters.

At the inauguration ceremony held that morning at the Government Complex Gwacheon, Chairperson Lee stated, "We will reestablish the public nature and fairness of public broadcasting and media, which serve as the social air, to gain the trust of the people."

She added, "To create a foundation for public broadcasters to deliver fair reporting, we will promptly complete the formation of the board of directors to secure the public nature and fairness of public broadcasting."

At the inauguration ceremony, Kim Tae-gyu, a standing commissioner and former vice chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, who was appointed alongside her, also attended and greeted the staff.

With the appointments of Chairperson Lee and Standing Commissioner Kim, the Korea Communications Commission has returned to a 'two-person system.' Having met the quorum for decisions, Chairperson Lee plans to hold a plenary meeting that afternoon to appoint directors of public broadcasters.

It is expected that the new boards of directors for the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation (KBCPF), the major shareholder of MBC, and KBS will be approved. The terms of the nine directors of KBCPF expire on the 12th of next month, and the terms of the eleven directors of KBS expire on the 31st of next month.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of Korea hinted at pushing for a motion to impeach along with demands for Chairperson Lee's resignation.
