Advanced 'Smart Dimming' Applied to Seven Tunnels in Busan
LED Replacement Improves Visibility and Reduces Electricity Costs
Expanding into Overseas Markets like Uzbekistan with Technological Edge
"We are creating a brighter and more comfortable world."
Lighting fixtures are rapidly evolving thanks to 'smart' technology. Recently, drivers passing through Hwangnyeong Tunnel in Nam-gu, Busan, have been amazed by the road they had never experienced before, quickly becoming captivated by its brightness and comfort, often giving it a thumbs up.
This is because the effects of replacing the old sodium lamps with LED lights equipped with IoT-based 'Smart Dimming' technology are becoming increasingly apparent.

CubeS LED, an IoT-based smart convergence solution company headquartered in Busan (CEO Noh Seunghoon), announced on the 31st that it has completed the replacement of LED lights with advanced technology in Hwangnyeong Tunnel, which was notorious for frequent traffic accidents due to low luminance and illuminance and excessive electricity consumption.
In addition to Hwangnyeong Tunnel, CubeS LED is working with Busan City, SKT, and others to build IoT Smart Green Tunnels in seven tunnels across Busan, including Jangsan 1 and 2 Tunnels, Dumyeong Tunnel, Mandeok 2 Tunnel, Gaejwa Tunnel, and Banggok Tunnel, with completion approaching.
The seven Smart Green Tunnels, including Hwangnyeong Tunnel, have been equipped with LED lights (5000K daylight color) featuring illuminance (luminance)-linked 'Smart Dimming' technology.
With the application of 'Smart Dimming' technology, the so-called 'black hole' or 'white hole' phenomena?caused by sudden differences in luminance between the inside and outside of the tunnel and resulting in temporary visual impairment?have been eliminated. The company also explained that electricity consumption has been dramatically reduced by automatically lowering luminance during periods of low traffic volume.
CubeS LED expects this technology to deliver a dual benefit: reducing electricity costs and preventing traffic accidents in the seven tunnels.
CubeS LED is not only focusing on tunnels but is also pouring efforts into research and development to advance lighting in various fields by integrating IoT technology and green smart LED technology into a variety of LED products such as streetlights, ground signal lights, and road markers.
The 'Color Temperature Control System,' which changes the visibility-reducing white LED streetlights to high-visibility orange using a visibility meter when the weather becomes cloudy, is also receiving praise in the industry. The company is driving innovation in the LED market through various initiatives, such as ground marker technology that, using patented device technology, extends the lifespan to at least three times longer than existing products.
CubeS LED is now venturing into the global market, leveraging its construction track record and advanced technology accumulated not only in Busan but also in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Jeju, and other regions nationwide.
CubeSLED CEO Seunghoon Noh and employees met with officials from Tashkent Province, Uzbekistan, last May to sign a business agreement for the construction of a smart city.
On May 24, a business agreement was signed with Tashkent Province for smart city development at the Tashkent Provincial Government building in Uzbekistan. An MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) was also signed to establish a factory for cooperative production with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan and local companies, along with national project support.
New Rubshan City, known as the second Tashkent, is serving as the administrative capital of Uzbekistan as more than 50 public institutions are being relocated there. It is also expected to accommodate the metropolitan population by establishing a smart city foundation. This agreement was made after Uzbekistan, preparing for the development of the smart new city of Nurabshan, expressed interest in CubeS LED's smart convergence technology and invited the company for a visit.
The agreement includes the installation of smart streetlights, ground signal lights, ground landscape lighting, and media facade LED displays in Nurabshan City to build a city based on smart technology. In addition, Joyir Mirzayev, Governor of Tashkent Province, promised to grant CubeS LED the first installation rights in more than 15 new cities to be developed in the future.
Noh Seunghoon, CEO of CubeS LED, said, "We are determined to pioneer the global market based on the technology and construction experience we have accumulated in Korea," and added, "Starting with our entry into Uzbekistan, we are accelerating our expansion into emerging Asian markets such as Cambodia and Central Asia."
