Samsung C&T Tops Construction Capability Evaluation for 11 Consecutive Years... DL E&C Returns to 'Top 5'

Samsung C&T Corporation has ranked first for 11 consecutive years in this year's domestic construction company construction capacity evaluation. DL E&C, which had fallen to 6th place last year, successfully re-entered the top 5. HDC Hyundai Development, which was 11th last year, also rose to 10th place, stepping up as one of the top 10 construction companies.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the '2024 Construction Capacity Evaluation' on the 31st, which comprehensively assessed construction companies nationwide based on construction performance, management status, technical capability, and credibility.

Samsung C&T maintained its first place for 11 consecutive years with a construction capacity evaluation amount of 31.8536 trillion KRW. Following were Hyundai Engineering & Construction with 17.9436 trillion KRW in second place, and Daewoo Engineering & Construction with 11.7087 trillion KRW in third place. Hyundai Engineering recorded 9.9809 trillion KRW, ranking fourth. The top four rankings remained the same as last year.

There were some changes in rankings from 5th to 10th place. DL E&C, which was 6th last year with 9.5496 trillion KRW, overtook GS Engineering & Construction, which was 5th last year, to return to the 'top 5'. GS Engineering & Construction dropped to 6th place this year. HDC Hyundai Development also rose from 11th last year to 10th this year, re-entering the top 10. Hoban Construction, which was 10th last year, fell to 12th place this year.

7th place POSCO E&C, 8th place Lotte Engineering & Construction, and 9th place SK Ecoplant maintained the same rankings as last year.

Hoban Construction, which ranked 10th last year with an evaluation amount of 4.3965 trillion KRW, dropped to 12th place as its evaluation amount decreased to 4.0343 trillion KRW.

Doosan Enerbility showed remarkable progress. Doosan Enerbility, which was ranked 42nd last year with 1.0052 trillion KRW, rose to 14th place this year with an evaluation amount of 3.1224 trillion KRW. A Doosan Enerbility official explained, "We graduated from creditor management and resumed business, and the ranking rose as we are also progressing with large nuclear power plant projects."

The total construction capacity evaluation amount this year was 294.0771 trillion KRW, an increase of about 7.5% compared to last year's 273.5624 trillion KRW.

The performance evaluation amount, which assesses results over three years, was 115.583 trillion KRW, up about 10.5% from last year's 104.6398 trillion KRW.

The management evaluation amount, indicating improvements in management ratios such as debt dependency and interest coverage ratio, slightly decreased from 102.9357 trillion KRW to 102.5895 trillion KRW during the same period. The technical evaluation amount rose about 1.4% to 46.3683 trillion KRW, and the credibility evaluation amount increased approximately 45.6% to 29.5362 trillion KRW.

Among the total construction capacity evaluation amount, the performance evaluation amount accounted for the largest share at 39.3%. This was followed by the management evaluation amount (34.9%), technical evaluation amount (15.8%), and credibility evaluation amount (10.0%).

A total of 73,004 construction companies applied for and were evaluated in this year's construction capacity evaluation, representing 85.2% of the total 85,642 construction companies.

Project owners can restrict bidding qualifications based on the construction capacity evaluation amount when ordering construction work. It can also be used for credit evaluation or guarantee screening of construction companies. The evaluation results will be applied starting from the 1st of next month.
